Item description
The formation of periodontal pockets, characterised by inflammation and an increased tendency to bleed, can apparently be prevented through the local and symptomatic application of Coenzyme Q10 (pure ubiquinol).
As Professor Magnus Nylander from Copenhagen and Dr. Takashi Hanioka from Osaka explained at the International Q10 Symposium in Stockholm, enzymes, antigens, endotoxins, cytokines and other substances released from dental plaque penetrate the surrounding tissues.
The tissues respond with cellular and humoral immune reactions, leading to swollen gums and the formation of pseudopockets. As the epithelium grows deeper, pathological periodontal pockets develop, resulting in the breakdown of connective tissue, bone loss, loosening of the teeth and, eventually, tooth loss.
Vitamin C is known for its role as an antioxidant vitamin in defending against bacteria associated with periodontal disease. It also promotes the regeneration of gum tissue.
