Item description
Omega-3, like omega-6, belongs to the group of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Both are essential, meaning they are vital for human health and must be obtained through the diet, as the body cannot produce them on its own.
One major difference between these two polyunsaturated fatty acids is that omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant effects, while omega-6 fatty acids, when consumed in larger amounts, may promote inflammation and blood clotting.
Furthermore, omega-3 reduces blood clotting, whereas omega-6 tends to increase it.
One of the most important aspects for adults is that omega-3 fatty acids reduce the blood's ability to clot, which may help protect against cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and heart attacks.
They also improve blood lipid levels, particularly by reducing triglycerides.
There is also evidence from studies suggesting that omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of developing dementia or Alzheimer's disease and may positively influence the progression of both conditions.
In addition, some studies have shown that higher omega-3 fatty acid levels in older adults may reduce the risk of disease, potentially contributing to a longer and healthier life.
