The nucleic acids DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) are important building blocks of cells. RNA and DNA are particularly involved in the formation of body cells, especially those of the immune system.

Selenium is an element that plays an important role in protecting against free radicals through its compounds. It can be found in glutathione, an enzyme that, like vitamin E, acts as an antioxidant, primarily protecting the inside of cells against free radicals. These antioxidants are therefore also referred to as "intracellular".

Furthermore, selenium also contributes to protection against heavy metals. It plays an important role in the synthesis of enzymes and hormones, some of which have antioxidant effects or help strengthen the body's natural defences.
